Ranch: a very large farm in the western U.S. or Canada, where cows, horses, or sheep are kept (Macmillan)
Poshranch: A quasi-ranch where the amenities are plenty, but the land is usable for things mentioned in the ranch definition (or similar). (My own definition).
Micro poshranch: A quasi-ranch where the amenities are plenty, but with a much smaller than real ranch acreage.
I’ve been thinking about my definition of a ranch versus the actual ‘ranch’ where I will be living when we move to Cheyenne. I want to clarify a few differences between the original definition versus my definition of a poshranch. I really have no idea what a real ranch really is, just my idea of what I think it is. Have you ever seen The Ranch on Netflix? It’s a great show and actually takes place in Colorado, but is it true to life? I really have no idea.
Ranch: 160 acres
Micro Poshranch: About 5-ish; just enough to be separate from neighbors, but still in a neighborhood.
Ranch: Cows
Poshranch: Bernese Mountain Dogs
Ranch: Branding irons
Poshranch: Curling irons and flatirons (for hair, not the ones in Boulder, CO)
Ranch: Farming corn, or wheat, or ??? (actually that’s really on a farm, but whatever…)
Poshranch: Greenhouse to grow tomatoes and beans
Ranch: Barn
Poshranch: Large outbuilding for storage or hobbies (such as knitting or other crafts, though I’m NOT crafty so Pintrest may become my new best friend; and I’ve always wanted to learn how to use a Cricut)
Ranch: Ranchers
Poshranch: Um…city people who want some land??
Ranch: Grazing grass
Poshranch: Grass that needs to be mowed with a mower due to lack of actual animals that graze
Ranch: Whiskey at the corral
Poshranch: Red wine on the patio
Ranch: Tractor
Poshranch: Some kind of lawnmower and snowplow, but at this point I have no idea how to mow or plow a larger plot of land than I have ever had.
Ranch: Horses
Poshranch: Go Carts
Ranch: Shed
Poshranch: SheShed and/or Man Cave
Ranch: Hay
Poshranch: Allergies!
Ranch: Pigs
Poshranch: Bacon (yum!)
Ranch: Cowgirl boots (AKA sh*tkickers??)
Poshranch: Trendy leather boots that hurt your feet when you wear them too long (my friends and I used to call these types of shoes ‘ow’ shoes because when we used to wear heels in Vegas our feet would hurt so much!)
Ranch: Good friends
Poshranch: Good friends
There you have it; my thoughts on living in the country, on a micro poshranch. I’m sure once we actually are living there I will have more comparisons to write about. I’m thinking I’ll also have to come up with a fancy ranch name (any ideas??). Those of you who currently live on an actual ranch, or did at some point in your life, may scoff at my comparisons, but please educate me on what it’s like to wake up at dawn, raise animals and manage a ranch because the poshranch that I’m talking about I’m sure is nothing like a real ranch.

Poshranch… what an awesome concept. I loved your comparisons, particularly branding vs curling irons 🙂
